Oral conscious sedation is a common form of sedation dentistry that uses oral medication to help you to relax and feel comfortable during a dental procedure. The oral medication is typically given to you prior to your procedure, with specific instructions on when you should take the medication before your appointment. Oral conscious sedation can help you feel at ease and comfortable, and can help patients who have anxiety or fear of dental procedures. This type of sedation allows you to still be awake, but remain pain-free during your procedure.
Oral conscious sedation will make you feel drowsy and tired, but also allows our staff to wake you if needed. This type of sedation helps patients relax and stay calm, but also allows the doctor to communicate with the patient because you are still somewhat conscious. Most patients do not remember anything about their dental procedure after oral conscious sedation.
Our doctor and staff will monitor you closely during the entire procedure. We advise patients bring a friend or family member with them to their appointment, so that you can be driven home safely. We recommend they stay with you at home until the sedative wears off in a few hours. The recovery after oral conscious sedation is a lot quicker compared to other sedation methods. You may feel a slight headache after your procedure, but most patients do not experience any side effects.
